How to prevent water from splashing when you are washing the dishes? The common solution is to use a faucet aerator. This will enable you to change the water flow to a softer stream which will minimize the splashes. But it certainly doesn’t mean that you won’t wet your clothes when you are doing the dishes. Accidents will still happen and water will still splash to a certain degree. So, can you wash dishes without getting your shirt wet then?
The answer is yes. There are other ways that you can adopt to ensure your shirt stays dry especially around the belly area which is about the same height as the kitchen sink. The cheapest way is to tie a plastic bag around your waist. The problem with this method though is that the plastic bag may break or fall off easily. It is more of an ad-hoc solution than a long-term one. Therefore, a better way would be to get something more durable and user-friendly.

Plastic Apron To Wash Dishes Without Getting Your Shirt Wet
A plastic apron is cheap, easy to put on, and washable. It comes in all sorts of designs and colors. It can also be transparent. Apart from being useful for dishwashing, a waterproof apron is also handy for other cleaning tasks around the house. You can also wear it when bathing your pet or when engaging in tasks that may stain your clothes such as painting and baking.
The drawback though is that it can get pretty hot and sweaty under a plastic apron during the summer months. Some of these aprons can be quite thick especially if you are looking for something highly durable. While the thin ones may be more comfortable to put on, unfortunately they don’t tend to last for very long.
If a PVC apron doesn’t appeal to you, then the next option is to consider putting up a splash guard.
Kitchen Sink Splash Guard
The reason for having a sink splash guard is not just to keep your shirt dry but also the counter area and floor surrounding it. Most of these splash guards will have suction cups to keep it in place as you do your washing. Some are also designed to be flexible so that you can adjust it to fit the shape of your sink. Also, bear in mind that some are meant to stop water from going behind the sink rather than front.
Others may have more than one usage as the concept is the same when it comes to protecting yourself when you cook. You can just put up the guard near your stove and it can also stop oil from splashing onto your clothes when you fry food.
The problem with a sink splash guard is that it may not stay securely in place. If the suction cups are not strong enough, the guard will fall off as you do your washing. The other consideration would be its design and whether it will get in the way when you use the sink. It can be tiring for your arms if you have to lift them higher to do your washing to avoid bumping into the splash guard.
Basically, you can wash dishes without getting your shirt wet but there are pros and cons to the different ways to prevent water from splashing everywhere. The solutions like a plastic apron and splash guard are simple and effective but not without drawbacks. It is just a question of what you can live with better.
